Bensley Professor of Organismal Biology and Anatomy at the University of Chicago and is Associate Dean of Biological Sciences. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2011. He was educated at Columbia, Harvard, and the University of California at Berkeley, and now lives in Chicago. Shubin is the author of the previous best-selling book, Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5 Billion Year History of the Human Body from which a DVD was based upon. Both the book and the DVD present lively and accessible accounts of the great transformations in the history of life on Earth. His most recent book, Some Assembly Required: Decoding Four Billion Years of Life, from Ancient Fossils to DNA. describes a new view of the evolution of human and animal life that explains how the incredible diversity of life on our planet came to be. Another book by Shubin is called The Universe Within: The Deep History of the Human Body.
